Frequently asked questions
How do I stop leaves sinking to the bottom of my pool?
Basketshark is an Australian-made pool surface skimmer that uses the flow of water returning from you filter to collect floating debris before it sinks. It captures leaves, twigs, insects, pollen, dog hair and other fine debris in its large-capacity collection bag, helping to keep both the surface and bottom of your pool cleaner.
Isn't that what the skimmer box does?
Yes. but if you run a suction based floor cleaner, you effectively don't have a skimmer box, as it is blocked by the skimmer plate and hose. Even if you don't run a suction cleaner, the improved circulation will improve the functionality of the skimmer.
How does it connect to my pool?
It connects to the pipe returning the water from the pump. We provide the necessary connections that fit your existing pool return water eyeballs.
Does BasketShark use pool suction?
No. BasketShark uses the returning water to create a Venturi effect which draws debris into the collection basket.
Do I need special skills to install it?
The BasketShark is very simple to install. It needs no special tools or glue. The installation videos in this website show how simple it is.
Does BasketShark use the pool suction?
No BasketShark connects to the return side of the filter and uses the flow of returning water to the pool. This means it doesn't compete with your suction cleaner for suction.
Can I use Basketshark with a robotic cleaner?
BasketShark happily operates with both robotic or suction style floor cleaners, working together to help keep you pool clean and reduce your work.
Is the BasketShark really made in Australia?
Yes it is! BasketShark was conceived and is proudly made on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland — something we, and our customers truly value! Hence delivery is quick and reliable.
We don't believe in local-washing (a term used when brands use words like Designed in Australia for products that are actually made overseas). To us, being Australian-made is more than just having an idea here, it means products are developed and manufactured here too, supporting local jobs, businesses, and our economy.
Will BasketShark collect pollen and fine debris?
The BasketShark collection bag is extremely fine and catches the finest debris, reducing the work your filter needs to do and reducing the need to backwash.
Do I have to take it out when we use the pool?
Definitely not. The BasketShark is assisted by the movement of water in the pool. Swim away!
Does the BasketShark need electricity or batteries?
No. The BasketShark uses the pressure from the returning water to draw debris into the collection bag.
Is it difficult to empty and clean?
Not at all. Simply remove the BasketShark from the hose and empty the contents. No need to remove the bag from the BasketShark.
Why can I buy a kit without a hose?
In designing the BasketShark we chose to use Baracuda hose because it is quite rigid. As Baracuda products are commonly used pool cleaners, many owners already have spare hose.
Will the BasketShark last?
The BasketShark is made of Polypropylene, UV, chlorine and salt water stabilised. You can expect to get many years of trouble free performance from your BasketShark.
